Sun, sand and pure relaxation: Rügen is the perfect place to unwind. But there are a few special experiences you shouldn’t miss out on. Here’s an overview of our highlights. If in doubt, our advice is: just enjoy yourself and come back again.

Even Germany’s smallest national park, with its impressive beech forests and white chalk cliffs, is a must-see on Rügen.

Cape Arkona is the northernmost point of Rügen and offers stunning views across the Baltic Sea; on a clear day, you can even see as far as Denmark. The landscape is particularly well worth experiencing from the still-operational lighthouse or along the circular walking trail that follows the cliffs. A detour to the idyllic fishing village of Vitt rounds off the tour.

Discover the flora and fauna of the Prora mixed beech forest at a variety of educational and interactive stations, or enjoy the view from the 40-metre-high tower. A particular highlight for young and old alike is the 52-metre-long tunnel slide.

Was früher der luxuriöse Jagdsitz der Putbuser Fürstenfamilie war, bietet heute mit einem Museumsschloss einen Einblick in die Vergangenheit sowie mit dem Mittelturm die besten Aussichten über die Insel.

From the Sellin pier, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the Baltic Sea. The restaurant of the same name, located on the pier, serves coffee and cake as well as other dishes. A particular highlight is the underwater viewing pod, which allows you to explore the Baltic Sea’s underwater world to a depth of around four metres.

Explore the history of the former KDF resort, a complex stretching over 4.5 kilometres, where German workers were to be ‘fit for service’ for the ‘Third Reich’.

Explore Rügen on a ride on the historic narrow-gauge railway, powered by a steam locomotive. The train takes you from Putbus via Binz, Sellin and Baabe to Göhren.

If you’re visiting Rügen with children, Karls Erlebnisdorf is well worth a visit. Located in Zirkow, the village features glass-walled workshops where you can see sweets and popcorn being made, a farmers’ market and other attractions for children.
